SEO Audit for your Business

Hi. It’s Mike here from M business and Marketing Solutions. Today, I want to talk to you about SEO audits and when I talk about SEO audits, you probably had people come to you and enquire if you need to do an SEO audit on your website. You might even get these call from overseas or an email telling you that your page is on on the top page of GOOGLE n your chosen keywords.


I always laugh at these requests because the majority of times, they don’t even know what your keywords are. So when I’m talking about keywords, I talk about the search terms on Google. So when someone is searching for you, let’ say you might be a carpet layer or might be an electrician. These queries could be electrician SunShot guys, Dale electrician, you know, those types of terms.


So the first thing with the SEO audit, before I even tell you what an SEO is,  is that it’s really important that you know what your keywords are and that’s paramount to everything that you do for Google.


If you’ve been in business long enough for your particular industry, you’ll know what they are. So that’s the first thing. So when someone comes to you and says, you’re not on the first page of Google, you have to ask them, what is my search term? That’s the first thing.


The second term, an SEO audit is pretty much like taking your car into a mechanic. They’ll do some diagnostics about certain areas. Now the three areas of the SEO audit that I focus on, and a lot of other people focus on is:


  1. On-page SEO
  2. Off-page SEO
  3. Content strategy


Now you might’ve had some salesperson, maybe a directory salesperson or someone come in and they give you this long list of an SEO audit. And they say, Oh, your website’s not doing well. And you look at it and you go up.




I haven’t got a clue. I have not got a clue. So let me sort of break it down with what an SEO audit and what you sort of are looking for. The first thing with the SEO on-page is pretty much there. This means your meta descriptions and your title tags. You know you’ve got a heading one, a heading two, a heading three. It’s exactly a seminar on a website. So these are your areas that are really important.


But also now, on-page is also about mobile-friendliness. It’s also how it goes down into the different mobile devices. So that’s on-page.




 Off-page are links that go outside the page.  You know the links to other things. These are the directory submissions and blogs.


The thing is you’d get somebody from overseas that would put your links in everywhere and then, of course, what came into play with Google is they penalize people for doing that. So, you know, it’s really important that if you get to do OFF-PAGE links, it’s important that those links are from an authority.

That’s not only it, it’s really, really good to know if it’s safe. You can still use directories and things like that. That’s okay. You might be able to use social media and things like that. They could be suppliers’ websites. So an OFF PAGE SEO. So if you’re actually going to be doing like at an off-page, it includes references. And so these are backlinks. That’s the word? So backlinks. And so if you do, if you ever had an audit from, from a directory or somebody who’s trying to sell your SEO, they’re going to say, “Oh, there are no backlinks.”


So there might be dodgy backlinks. So there might be this or it might be that. So these are the areas that you really have to look at.




And of course the third thing is content strategy. Now with Google, it’s really, really important that you are posting across onto social media. That you’re doing good blogging and that you’ve got what we call seeded content. So you’ve got content on the website to have your keywords.


Now you don’t want to be able to put too many keywords into the one page called keyword stuffing. There’s a real art in SEO and how to rank for your keywords.
