Hey, it’s Mike here from M Business and today, I want to talk to you about referrals. Referrals are simply the best form of advertising. These are the word of mouth and word of mouth is everything.

 

You know I talk to a lot of people during the week people that are not our customers. I talk to them and I say, “Where do you get most of your best customers from?” They go, oh Word of Mouth.

 

I built my business on “Word of Mouth” and you know a lot of us to have and we want to duplicate that, so it’s really important.

 

First of all, why is word of mouth or why a referral is so important?

 

I think the number one the reason why referrals are so important is pretty much because it creates an expectation.

 

You know if someone says,

 

“Hey, do you know anybody who is a web designer or a marketer?”

 

“Yeah, I’ve got someone you can use!”

 

There’s that expectation that the person they’re going to choose is going to be good. It’s easier to close those type of customers and often what I hear from people who are used to word of mouth type of advertising they say, 

 

“Oh! I tried Google. I tried Facebook but I found they’re all you know tire-kickers!”

 

The reason why a lot of people say that is because of word of mouth. When people come to you on a referral they’re pretty much already sold. They’re pretty much already there so that’s why referrals are so good.

 

That expectation when a person comes to you, this is an expectation about your services. It must be good because their friends have told you.

 

Number two: It increases your close ratio.

 

Why?

 

It’s a lot easier to close.

 

Number three: They don’t cost you anything.

 

I think referrals are so good because they don’t cost you anything. You don’t!

 

It’s cost-effective because a person’s giving it to you for free.

The customers that you get from a referral often are going to stay loyal because they’re your ideal client. Often the clients of friends, people that are similar to them are your ideal clients and so those clients are going to be exactly the same as the clients you’ve already got unless the person who gave me the referral is a pain and they’re not really your ideal client then you’re in trouble.  But you know what I’m trying to say.

He actually closes the door and no one’s allowed in unless it’s a referral so that’s a classic that’s absolutely amazing. So yeah!

Hi! This week on Mike’s Marketing Minutes. I’m talking about the “why”. Why are you in business? Why do you do it?

I’m talking about W-H-Y! What is your why?

 

Let me give you an example. I met a lot of business people and a lot of business people are miserable. I don’t even know how they’re keeping their business. But successful business people simply just have this passion. They seem to have this enthusiasm. But most of all they have a thing called “persistence.” Now I remember starting in business years ago and man you know,

 

I used to door knock.

I used to door knock businesses.

I used to door knock to get sales, to get enquiries.

 

 

For me as a young guy trying to start a new business, I didn’t have the cash flow. It was the only way that I could actually do.

 

 

I’ve been attacked by two German Shepherds.

I’ve been attacked by four dogs at one point.

I had my clipboard, I was waking up and yelling at the top of my lungs. I’ve had a gun pointed at me. I have you thinking,

 

“Wait where were you door knocking?”

 

“Suburbia”

 

Once I went into a premise and it turned out to be an outlaw biker gang and all of a sudden all these motorbikes came roaring in and I was like oh what the hell! So but why? Why did I do it?

 

 

it’s because of the persistence. I knew the “me” and where I was. That’s what I needed to do to get the job done and you know you might be thinking today:

 

“I just don’t have it anymore.”

“I just I’m tired.”

“I don’t have that feeling of where my business is going and what I need and what I do.”

 

You know at the end of the day you’ve got to ask yourself,

 

“Why did you get into this business in the first place?”

“What gets you up in the morning?”

 

If you don’t have the answers to these questions, then you’ve got to go back. You’ve really got to go back to where it all started. You’ve got to go back and even refresh it. You know refresh, restart and renew the day.

Look at it coming into where you are now. If you’re in business, it’s fantastic that you are in business. At this time in history, especially with what’s going on in Australia and the world at the moment, if you’re doing well in business that’s fantastic and I want to really support those people.
